It is that time of year, when we get to enjoy the Galette des Rois (king’s cake)! C’est La Vie prepares this delicious seasonal dessert in-house, of course, following a traditionally French family recipe.

The Galette des Rois is a puff pastry, sprinkled with sugar and glazed and then filled with an almond paste (frangipane). The Galette includes a special surprise inside and a paper golden crown is distributed with the Galette. Tradition has it that a small porcelain figurine is hidden inside the Galette. When the cake is divided up and carefully eaten for dessert, the person with the porcelain figure is awarded the golden crown. This tradition stems from the religious celebration, the Solemnity of Epiphany (commemorated on January 6) in honor of the Magi visit to the Christ Child. The exact interpretation and celebration varies throughout Europe and Canada though.

You can order your Galette des Rois from C’est La Vie through January 31, 2020. Please specify your C’est La Vie pick-up location (either Downtown Sarasota or UTC) when ordering. The Galette des Rois are ordered by serving size: 4, 6, 8, 10, or more and is priced $5 per serving.
